7: Overhead Hardware (aft / fwd)

Overhead Panel (forward)

I chose to go with Sismo for a number of reasons which I will highlight below, however for now I will say that I purchased their top of the line Platinum Overhead with NEW Ethernet technology.

For some time, there has been a myth that USB is simple, quick and easier to install, however with elaborate set-ups many USB connections without updated drivers can lead to blue screen occasionally   Speed at which the hardware interfaces with the software was my main goal here, which is why I went with Ethernet, to ensure that aspect of the design is efficiently replicated within the simulator.

Pros

  • Ethernet connection - fast response times between hardware selection - interface - flight sim command
  • KORY switches - representing real panel functionality (for those of you whom don't know what kory switches are, this is a function of pull out to move up or down, before locking in to the new position.  The idea was that in turbulence, if an object was to make contact with enough force, there would still be some protection from the switch being moved.  Kory switches used on primary switches linked to hydraulics, electrical and fuel.
  • Start Switches - motor functionality when moved to the GND start position, after successful engine start, switch automatically resets back to OFF position.
  • Robust, heavy, metal and durable structure - built for longevity.  Very important in the selection process for me.

Cons

  • Ethernet connection - challenging to setup using SIOC scripts and requires 3x much time than conventional USB configurations
  • Delivery internationally based on weight and the wooden container still received structural damages that took 3 months to sort, and ship in new parts that the user has to manually fix/attach.  No problem if you live in Spain, however, international delivery is raising a question mark for me for some of the other products I am choose for the sim.
  • User Friendly with Software like ProjectMagenta (PM) / SIM-A - not compatible yet

Price: $5,500
